Glad you were smart enough to say you would narrow down to two areas of improvement to focus on. That is where I have really struggled. I keep seeing all these other focuses as well and am having to work really hard keeping a focus. It will be interesting to see what your staff has to say. What size and type of school are you at? At any point are you going to share the data and results with your staff so they can see the difference that was made?
ReplyDeleteHave you done the reading for this week in the Harris book yet? I think that you could definitely utilize the Nominal Group Technique in narrowing down your focus to the top two areas of improvement. You could have your culture committee members be the facilitators of small groups in a faculty meeting. You could then get the committee together with each group's top two and you could then facilitate them in the same manner to narrow to the top two.
ReplyDeleteClarissa, I am at Title I urban high school with approximately 1200 students. I plan to utilize faculty meetings, and maybe create a blog to keep teachers abreast of both the data and impact of the committee.
ReplyDeleteJonathan, I have completed the reading and I thought about using this technique, but I have changed my topic. This technique will also be benefitial with the new one.
ReplyDeleteSince you don't have a focus for your research yet (staff hasn't been surveyed), it's difficult to think about how you can measure the results of your action research plan; maybe that's something you can think about adding...
ReplyDeletehow to measure whatever it is the focus will be?
This should be interesting! I think the staff will appreciate that they will be the ones to determine your focus. They will feel empowered!
